Pratt's other influential work on this Technical communication book is How to Write Instructionswhich was co-authored by Carol Johnston and Ginny Critcher. In this book he discusses how communicators can measure the value of technical documentation; how to create the "emotion factor" in user manuals to engage loyal customers; how to collaborate with clients; semantic, structured writing; and trends in technical communication. Real-world sample documents are drawn from a range of disciplines and topics relevant to technical communication—from healthcare to marketing to engineering—as well as a wide range of print and digital sources. This is important for those of you who may already be in the health care industry or those of you who are exploring content marketing, public relations or writing for general audiences.

Morgan gives would-be technical writers various templates and structures for different types of deliverables. This type of information may include software and medical instructions, functional specifications, training programs and other services. The way that the book starts with a quick reference guide to genres and then moves into the big-picture writing theory is evidence that the writers want the book to be immediately useful.

And they provide instructions for products and services. Technical communicators research and create information about technical processes or products directed to a targeted audience through various forms of media. Some examples include user guides for software, product specifications, patents, assembly instructions, technical diagrams and illustrations, and websites about medical products. I expect to find this book useful far beyond the scope of my class work.
